The New York Continuo Collective Announces Its
Fall 2014 Project

This Fall the New York Continuo Collective will explore the year 1614 in Italy. We'll begin with a look at Giulio Caccini's preface to Le Nuove Musiche (1601), and his sequel, Nuove Musiche, published in 1614. The preface serves as the bible of 17th century expressive singing, and an introduction into the techniques of affective ornamentation. We will begin with an ornamented motet by Barbino, published in 1614, alsong with one of Caccini's songs from from his 1614 book, plus madrigals by Salomone Rossi and Monteverdi.
