The New York Continuo Collective Announces Its
Spring 2014 Project
Cavalli Opera Scenes
L'Incontro tra Giasone ed Eete, Palazzo Fava, Bologna
Starting in January 2014, the Continuo Collective will explore the operas of Francesco Cavalli, the most influential composer of opera in the public theaters of mid-17th Century Venice. The project will culminate with two performances in May of 2014 of staged scenes from La Calisto, IlGiasone, and other works.
The project will be directed by Grant Herreid; faculty will include Charlie Weaver, Judith Malafronte, Pat O'Brien, Paul Shipper, Nell Snaidas, and Leah Nelson.
Auditions for singers for the purpose of assigning roles and scenes will be held on
Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 6:30 PM at St. Luke's Lutheran Church,
308 West 46th Street (btwn 8th and 9th Aves)
Please prepare a solo piece of early 17th century Italian monody.
Weekly Tuesday evening sessions begin January 21, including workshops on
libretti, poetry and declamation, ornamentation, and gesture.
All continuo and string players welcome.
Tuesday evening sessions are from 7:00 to 10:00 PM
St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 308 West 46th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues)
2nd Floor Lounge (buzz "18" on the intercom).
The cost of participation in the workshop, including all materials, will be $450; as always subject to our regular policy on sliding scale and scholarships (no one excluded for lack of funds).
