Basics of Harmony Class Jan. 3-24
Richard Kolb will teach a four-session class on the basics of harmony as they apply to 16th and 17th-century music for singers and instrumentalists. Theclass is open to everyone, with any level of background in harmony and continuo. We'll cover the ways intervals, scales, and keys work, and using aseries of graded exercises and pieces we'll look at how chords are formed and how to invent ornamentation that fits with the harmony. Singers will find it helpful to have access to a keyboard, even if you don't play a keyboard instrument.
The class will be held at our regular rehearsal space, St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Tuesday evenings 6:30 - 8:30, starting January 3. Cost for the four sessions will be $80, with all the usual Continuo Collective scholarship and tuition forgiveness applying (i.e., if you can’t afford it, pay what you can).
Please e-mail Richard, firstname.lastname@example.org before the first class so that he can send you materials to print out and bring.
